I am BirdLife South Africa’s project manager for White-winged Flufftail conservation. My day-to-day responsibilities involve researching and monitoring avian communities in grassland and wetland habitats. Together with collaborators from various institutions, we test and identify drivers of community change that inform best practice guidelines for landowners and conservation managers. This allows me to practice and refine my skills in ecology, ornithology, conservation biology, population modelling, GIS, and bioacoustics. I continue to maintain a working relationship with the MIMMP by developing my PhD results which examined the population ecology and life history of male elephant seals. I overwintered at Marion Island as a Sealer in 2016/2017.
