My research focuses on the distribution, habitat use and foraging ecology of Marine top-predators; specifically at-sea behaviour and its influence on the population dynamics. This research includes work done on Antarctic and Subantarctic fur seals, Weddell, Ross, and crabeater seals.

I am currently a Claude Leon Postdoctoral Fellow studying the consequences of divergent long-term foraging strategies of Antarctic fur seals at Marion Island.

Recently I was a PEW Fellow at Gateway Antarctic, University of Canterbury in Christchurch to investigate the distribution and abundance of crabeater seals in the Weddell Sea, which will contribute to the planning of the Weddell Sea Marine Protected Area.

I completed my MSc. and PhD within the Marion Island Marine Mammal Programme . I spent two non-consecutive years as a 'Sealer' on Marion Island (2009-2010 & 2012-2013) and completed further fieldwork expeditions to Antarctica and the Tristan da Cunha Island Archipelago, which includes Gough, Nightingale, and Inaccessible islands. I was involved in the National Geographic Pristine Seas expedition to the Tristan da Cunha islands in 2017.

Lecturing:

I coordinate and lecture short courses on basic R programming, mapping and statistical skills to postgraduate students and have lectured in Antarctic Studies at the University of Canterbury. I was involved as a lecturer on data management, R programming and biologging technologies on SEAmester 2018.
